Fort Douglas was built in 1862 and is a National Historic Landmark. Although the fort itself is closed while the University of Utah restores its (over 40) historic buildings, the museum presents and preserves its history for the public.

The park contains the cauldron that was lit during The Games. The visitor center consists of an art gallery, theatre and video viewing area. A 10-minute multi-screen movie of highlights from the 2002 Winter Olympics is featured in the theatre.

This year-round garden is well known for its gorgeous formal displays and its Children's Garden. The views of the valley from these paths and terraces is amazing and there are trails enough to keep you hiking for hours.

The This is the Place Monument, standing at the western end of the 1300 miles of the Mormon Trail, is the capstone of the park, but there's more here than monuments. Interpretors re-enact Utah pioneer history and you can learn both 19th century crafts and dances while you explore.
